Dr. Joe Powers serves a Director of Business Development for Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures, where he focuses primarily on establishing digital health corporate partnerships across the University, Hospitals, and Health System. Joe is responsible for establishing the OurCrowd-Johns Hopkins collaborations that has brought pioneering Israeli startups to Johns Hopkins for co-development and validation. Joe has more than 15 years of experience developing worldwide business, marketing, and commercial strategies and programs for prominent for-profit and non-profit organizations around the world. Prior to academia, Joe worked for more than a decade in a variety of business, strategy, and marketing roles within the pharmaceutical industry, where he has developed an expertise in business strategy, technology scouting, global commercialization, and academia-industry partnerships. While in industry, Joe invented and commercialized three patented software tools, including the first application to wirelessly send medical education content to physician handheld devices, as well as tools to improve patient-physician interactions, medical diagnoses, and medication adherence. Joe’s interests in digital health go back to the 1990s where he was involved a three digital health startups that paved the way for telehealth and consumer medical information over the Internet. Joe has a doctoral degree in kinesiology where his dissertation focused on mobile health, along with Master degrees in business, organizational dynamics, education, and bioethics.
